The Zany Comedy Play On Opens at Theatre Jacksonville
The hilariously zany comedy Play On opens at Theatre Jacksonville on April 17. Cleverly designed as a play within a play, Play On follows a theater group trying and failing in different ways to put on a play, with a haughty author who keeps revising the script.
“If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of a production, this play is a hilarious, tongue-in-cheek way to find out,” said Theatre Jacksonville Executive Director Sarah Boone. “This show has been called a ‘love letter to community theatre’ by critics, so it is an ideal offering for Theatre Jacksonville — the longest continuously running community theater in Florida.”
Play On will be directed by Rachel Johns and Daniel Austin and stage-managed by Susan Roche. It features Devon Burns, Katie Cress, Abi Hunger, Daniel Locke, Kenny Logsdon, Kate McDermott, Olivia Montalbano, Natalie Primm, Taylor Smith and Tevin Washington. Shows will run from April 17 through May 3, with evening performances at 7:30 p.m. and three matinee performances at 2 p.m. on April 26 and May 2 and 3. The last Saturday performance will be a 2 p.m. matinee.
The final Mainstage production this season will be:
¨ Sondheim on Sondheim with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, conceived and directed by James Lapine, opening June 5 – The genius songwriter Stephen Sondheim celebrated with his own songs amid a framework of exclusive and in-depth video interviews.
One complimentary ticket is included with All-Access Memberships and Season Subscriptions. Single tickets for the show will be offered for $31 each.
